Postcard

My accidental award winning short-documentary.

Postcard wasn't written, storyboarded, or pre-planned in any way. This story happened to me as I was documenting my car camping trip around the Gaspésie Peninsula, in Canada, with my husband.

After the trip, I decided to create the video because I wasn't sure if the postcard would arrive, but I needed to ensure the main message would reach its destination.
It started as a birthday gift to my mom, who lives in my home country, Brazil, and ended up being my first short travel documentary and my debut in the world of solo documentary filmmaking.

Then, one day, a few weeks later, I had the sudden thought:
“What if I submitted Postcard to a film festival, just to see how it feels?”
And I did.

It never crossed my mind that it would be nominated as Best of the Category, and even more, that other people would relate to Postcard so much that it would win the Audience Award at the Erie International Film Festival in 2024. But it did.
It was an important reminder to me that stories written from our hearts are still worth telling.

Com amor,
Tarsila
